  2. Step 2:10 ÷ 4 = 2.5
  3. Step 3:Since 2.5 > 1, this is an enlargement
Answer: Scale factor = 2.5 (enlargement)

Example 2: Reduction

Original length = 15 cm, new length = 5 cm

  1. Step 1:Scale factor = new ÷ original
  2. Step 2:5 ÷ 15 = 1/3
  3. Step 3:Since 1/3 < 1, this is a reduction
Answer: Scale factor = 1/3 (reduction)
